Also in Sydney Harbour, you can see Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair. This sandstone rock was hand carved in 1810 by convicts for the wife of Governor Macquarie. Near the Royal Botanic Gardens, this part of The Domain is a peninsula that is known as Mrs. Macquarie’s Point.

According to local folklore, Elizabeth Macquarie would sit on the rock, watching as the ships sailed into the harbor and enjoying the panoramic view. The chair faces the Pacific Ocean toward Fort Denison and provides a perfect place to look out to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
